The Lighthouse for the Blind offers continuous education and professional development to the blind so as to contribute to their social and professional integration. The Lighthouse has created production units that offer employment to visually impaired individuals, producing metal products, cleaning products, and linen. Additional services include the attainment of their member’s independence, the reduction of everyday difficulties the blind are faced with, and the provision of social services. Amongst the plethora of services and activities offered by The Lighthouse, are: Social Services; Tactile Museum; Braille Lending Library; Braille Learning Center; Audio Books Recording Studios & Lending Library; Gymnasium; Computer Learning Center; Ceramics, Pottery, Macrame workshops, and many more. The Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece assists 2,500 visually impaired individuals on a yearly basis, 50% of whom are elderly.
Equipment & Materials
The grant regards the purchase of equipment and materials. More specifically, these materials include the purchase of a mechanical press and raw materials necessary for the production of metal products, as well as materials for the knitting and macramé workshops. The knitting and macramé workshops are highly frequented by elders some of who have recently become blind.
