Program for the Healthy Ageing & Psychological Health of the Blind

The grant regards the development of a program for the healthy ageing and psychological health of blind elderly persons. Due to the pandemic, there are now many more cases than ever before of elderly blind persons who experience social isolation and depression. This program aims to reduce the challenges of accessing health services and to aid the blind in connecting with people from their close environment. The two main pillars of the program are: 1) the provision of blind seniors’ health services, which will be carried out via a) at-home visits by a health assistant and b), by accompanying and transferring blind seniors to various medical services such as hospitals; 2) the provision of psychosocial health and counselling services that will be conducted via telephone and at-home visits. The program will aid more than 100 socially isolated elderly blind individuals who will receive its services.
