GIVMED has a dual purpose: to connect leftover medicine with nonprofit organizations that need it as well as to inform and educate the public regarding wasted medicine. In 2015, over 2 million persons were living under the poverty line and 15,000 kilos of unexpired medicine had been wasted. GIVMED has created a smartphone application through which users can enter what medicine they have and in turn are informed about those nonprofit organizations that need it. A user has the option of choosing which nonprofit organization can receive the medicine that he/she wishes to donate. Up until 2017, GIVMED recorded that approximately 1,500 persons have downloaded its application with 700 being active users. GIVMED has a steady cooperation with many nonprofit organizations and have “connected” almost 5,000 pharmaceuticals so far.

Medicine Donation Program for Geriatric Units in Attica
The grant regards the provision of medication to 18 Attica nonprofit care homes. More specifically, GIVMED will record the needs of care homes and develop an online system for the exchange and donation of medicine. In addition, the program will have the goal of informing local communities of the importance of pharmaceutical waste and of medicine donation.
