The Hellenic Association of Geriatrics & Gerontology was founded in 1977 in response to the new demographic profile of the ageing Greek population.

Since 1979, the Association has been a member of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics. The Association has played an important role in shaping policies for the elderly and has become an important source of education, information, and dialogue on geriatric issues. Throughout the years, some of the Association’s major contributions have been to spearhead the founding and operation of the Open Protection Centers for the Elderly, and organize the Panhellenic Congress of Geriatrics and Gerontology. Other activities that the Association has been involved with include: educational courses in geriatrics and gerontology, a library at the Association’s premises, the provision of consulting services on matters pertaining to ageing, organization of seminars, lectures, and educational meetings that are directed both towards health professionals and the greater public, and participation in European and Greek research programs.

Dementia Online Training Program

 

The grant regards the online training program “School for Carers of Alzheimer patients”, in partnership with the European Group of Territorial Cooperation “Efxini Poli”.  The program has 2 axes:  a) An online training for 500 caregivers of persons with dementia throughout Greece and  b) An online awareness-raising seminar for 60 health professionals (doctors, nurses, psychologists, physical therapists, etc.) on the topic of dementia.

This grant is implemented through the Points of Support program IV.
