Caritas Athens currently manages several programs that offer a variety of social services to vulnerable groups. Some of Caritas Athens’ programs are the “Hot Meal Program” offering hot meals to people in need, and the “Family Packages Program” offering monthly packages of food supplies to indigent families. Additional services provided include clothes distribution, employment counseling and psychological support.

Program Creation: Support for the Third Age

The grant regards the creation of a Program aimed at supporting elders through the 11 Attica Caritas churches for 12 months. The Program’s implementation is based on two pillars: “Support at Home” and “Support through Entertainment”. For the “Support at Home” pillar, volunteers will visit homebound elders at home twice a month for psychological support. Additionally, they will accompany elders to health-related visits (doctors & medical exams). Health-related equipment and supplies will also be provided. The volunteers will be continually trained in order to offer the adequate support and care to elders. The “Support through Entertainment” pillar will offer elders the possibility to participate in 3 recreational activities: an excursion, a theater, and a musical performance. Approximately 100 elders will receive the aforementioned services, out of which 20 are homebound elders for the “Support at Home” and 80 are elders for the “Support through Recreation” program.
