The mission of the Center for the Study of Crime focuses on the study, analysis, and public promotion of criminology issues, as well as the formulation of policy proposals for more effective crime prevention and suppression. Its team is composed of legal and social scientists specialized in the field of criminology and penal law. Its mission is to conduct criminological research and to provide policy makers, academics and the public at large with substantiated information and criminal policy recommendations. NIREAS: Pilot Program for the Prevention of Elderly Abuse
The grant regards the creation of the NIREAS pilot program for the prevention, identification, and tackling of elder abuse through a holistic community intervention. The program is structured around three distinct axes. The first axis entails educational meetings at Open Protection Centers for the Elderly in the Municipality of Halandri informing seniors about the types of abuse, risk recognition and the development of self-protection skills. These sessions will be interactive and will include information on legal rights and institutional protection options. The second axis will comprise of an educational seminar for social care professionals focusing on the early detection and effective management of abuse cases by professionals. Participants will acquire specialized knowledge and practical intervention tools. A relevant training manual will also be developed. The third axis will be informational awareness-raising events organized to highlight the phenomenon of elder abuse, its consequences, and the importance of community protection. Approximately 300 seniors and social care professionals will benefit from this program.
