Walking Basketball Program
The grant regards a walking basketball program for seniors aged 65+ in the Municipalities of Keratsini and Drapetsona. The objective of the program is to use walking basketball to improve the physical and psychological health of seniors, through targeted activities related to basketball. Through weekly training sessions at the Keratsini municipal gym, senior participants will have the opportunity to learn what walking basketball is, form teams, train, and undergo targeted physical therapy through exercises related to the sport. At the end of the training cycle, there will be a small tournament where the teams that have been formed will “compete” for first place. The program is developed with the aim of creating a good practice methodology that can then be used by other municipalities or organizations with elderly beneficiaries. The ultimate purpose of the program is to showcase how basketball can improve the quality of life and reduce the social isolation of seniors. The direct beneficiaries are approximately 60 seniors from the aforementioned Municipalities.
