Psychological Support Program for Seniors

F Center is currently realizing, through a grant of the TIMA Charitable Foundation, a psychological support program to 30 Attica Open Protection Centers for the Elderly (OPCEs).

The program began in October 2018 and is composed of two axes: a) an introductory presentation at each OPCE on psychological health issues affecting the elderly, and b) individual psychological support sessions to those that need it. Additionally, the F Center team will train the OPCE staff on psychological matters in order for them to develop the ability to identify seniors who are undergoing such issues. Emphasis will be placed on OPCEs located in Western Attica. Over the first three months of the program’s implementation, more than 220 individual support sessions had taken place and over 320 persons had attended the informational speeches. Through the F Center’s experience, a considerable proportion of seniors show significant improvement after only 3 sessions and research has shown that depression in the third age is to a large extent treatable.
