Its flagship initiative is Greece’s only street magazine “Shedia“ – an official member of the International Network of Street Paper, that offers dignified income opportunities for certified vendors experiencing poverty or homelessness. The organization has expanded to include the nationally recognized “Goal Against Poverty” program featuring Greece’s National Homeless Football Team, which has received international recognition from FIFA (2014) and the World Football Summit (2020). Additional programs include “Invisible Tours” social walks, “Shedia Art” social enterprise, and the multifunctional “Shedia Home” community space, all designed to foster social inclusion and empowerment.
Walking Football Program
The grant regards the program “Pasa Zois” which will introduce the internationally adapted sport of Walking Football to Greece for adults over the age of 60. Four teams will be established, 2 in Athens and 2 in Thessaloniki, with weekly training sessions, Certification will be provided by the German Football Federation and at the end of the program, a Walking Football tournament in Athens will be organized. The program addresses Greece’s high rates of elderly loneliness through an accessible & safe physical activity that combines exercise and social connection. It aims to improve both physical health and psychological well-being whilst creating a sustainable community sports infrastructure. The program will target socially isolated seniors experiencing poverty, with at least 50% of participants being women.
