The General Hospital Asklipieio Voulas is the only public hospital in southeast Attica. As such, on a yearly basis, it hospitalizes 30,000 patients, treats 80,000 patients at the Emergency Unit and 75,000 at the outpatient clinics. In 2005, Asklipieio was converted from a specialized orthopedics hospital to a general hospital, while maintaining an orthopaedics focus. The B Surgical Clinic performs a wide range of operations, 40% of which are laparoscopies in the abdominal area. In 2017 it performed 735 surgeries, almost 300 of which laparoscopically.

The grant regards the purchase of medical equipment needed for all types of laparoscopic surgeries for the B Surgical Clinic. More specifically, the requested equipment is a laparoscopic tower that includes a monitor allowing the surgeon to see in real time the area that she/he is operating on. The direct beneficiaries are 500 patients who will undergo laparoscopic surgeries per year. More than 50% of these patients are over the age of 65.
