Medical Examinations and Awareness-Raising

Diabetes Nonprofit Organization creates awareness-raising events for the general public, inviting scientists and doctors to speak about diabetes on prevention, information and education on the disease. Special emphasis is placed on educating children and the elderly. In 2017, Diabetes Nonprofit Organization reached 1,800 seniors in Municipalities across the Attica region, through its specialized speeches and examinations. In Greece, there are 900,000 diagnosed patients and approximately 300,000 non-diagnosed cases. Sixty-percent of patients diagnosed with diabetes are over the age of 65. Awareness raising and early diagnosis have been proven to be the best prevention for the disease.

Medical Examinations and Awareness-Raising

The grant regards diabetes diagnostic examinations in over 30 Open Protections Centers for Seniors (OPCEs) in municipalities of Western Attica for 12 months, along with the organization of speeches by specialized doctors. Approximately 2,300 beneficiaries who do not have easy access to doctors will be targeted through this grant. The majority of diabetes conditions can be treated if diagnosed early, therefore the services offered by Diabetes Nonprofit Organization are of vital importance, especially for seniors in need, who are unable to pay for related examinations.
