“Athens: A City for all Ages” Program

The grant regards the “Athens: A City for All Ages” Program, which will first entail an assessment of what elderly persons need in the public urban space and the subsequent development of proposals by seniors themselves with the aim of making Athens a city that is friendly to all age groups. Participants take on the role of researchers and will undergo exploratory mapping walks and interactive workshops, in partnership with the Open Protection Center for the Elderly (OPCE) of Kypseli—Kiou Street. A report will be prepared with the results of the workshops and proposals for urban interventions, while a guide with the proposed methodology will also be published.  According to surveys, seniors face issues such as the high speed of cars, the short duration of traffic lights, the lack of pedestrian walkways and greenery, as well as a shortage of public benches so that seniors can rest.
