The Metropolis of Kisamos and Selinon was founded in 1860 in western Crete. The metropolitan region covers Kisamos and Selinon, two western eparchies of the prefecture of Chania. This region has about 28,000 inhabitants with a high percentage of elders residing in villages. The Metropolis operates a plethora of social programs for elderly beneficiaries, such as care at home programs, a telephone line for the support of elders, food-related programs and physiotherapy centers. In 2014, about 80 elders were residing at the The Annousakeio Care Home and Rehabilitation Center. Τhe care home is divided in 2 wings: one that specializes in dementia and one that operates as a traditional care home. Additionally, post hospitalization care is offered to patients through the Rehabilitation Center.

The grant regards the purchase of an ambulance for the transport of patients to and from the Chania General Hospital as well as the other 3 Medical Centers of the metropolitan region. It will serve mostly elderly patients in need who live in remote villages.
