New Program Creation: Care at Home Services for Dementia Patients

The Athens Association of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders created, through a grant of the TIMA Charitable Foundation, a care at home program for patients with dementia.

The program is the first care at home program in Greece that focuses on the caregiver and will have as priority to improve the services he/she provides to the patient. The program will last a year and will serve over 100 families of dementia patients with visits at home. The intervention for each family will last three months, with about 25 families being served each quarter. The program is staffed by a team of 2 psychologists, 2 nurses, 1 social worker, 1 physical education specialist, and 1 psychiatrist. Apart from the services provided by each specialist, educational seminars are provided at the Association’s premises as well as at home training for those that cannot leave the house for several hours. During the first trimester of the program, families from the Municipalities of Acharnes, Ilion, Keratsini, Peiraus, Nikais, Perama, Korydallos, Aigaleo, Peristeri, Petroupoli, Agia Varvara & Haidari were included.
