The University Research Institute of Maternal and Child Health and Precision Medicine is a unique national center for the clinical and molecular study of genetic, neoplastic, and neurological diseases in childhood and adolescence. It focuses targeted therapies for these conditions, including many rare diseases.

The Institute is housed within one of the largest pediatric complexes in Europe and comprises 2 pediatric hospitals, 1 pediatric oncology unit, 2 research institutes, and 4 University Departments. It hosts numerous clinical residency, educational, doctorate, and post-graduate programs.

Volunteer Registry for Seniors 65+

 

The grant regards the development of a Volunteer Registry for seniors aged over 65 at public children’s hospitals. The Registry will include at least 100 senior volunteers aged over 65 who will be extensively trained in various issues that have to do with child psychology, creative engagement of children, parental guidance, psychosocial support, and support for cultural and educational activities. Α mentoring system will be established to pair experienced volunteers with new participants. The program targets formal institutionalization by the Ministry of Health and integration into the national health system after the pilot.  Indirect beneficiaries will include hospital staff supported by the presence of volunteers and their support to patients and their families.
