The Social Welfare Centre of Attica falls under the auspices of the Ministry of Labor & Social Affairs, which manages a total of 8 institutions: two shelters for approximately 120 infants of preschool age, a center for the diagnosis and rehabilitation of children with learning difficulties, two centers of accommodation for 70 children and adolescents, and three centers of accommodation for approximately 360 elderly - vulnerable individuals

The West Athens Branch for the Disabled in the area of Agia Varvara – Egaleo which is one of the centers of accommodation for elderly-vulnerable individuals, houses adults with chronic diseases who have weak or non-existent family networks and are economically disadvantaged. The Center accommodates 152 people with chronic mobility, mental and other problems, around half of whom are elderly. It offers medical care, social and psychological support, nutrition, occupational therapy and physical rehabilitation services, as well as recreational and socialization activities.

The grant regards the creation of a central garden area immediately facing the residential and staff premises of the Center. This is part of a larger vision to upgrade the 25,370 m2 plot. The redevelopment of the outdoor area emphasizes accessibility for all beneficiaries and employees, the enhancement of greenery and the co-existence of a tranquil natural environment along with recreational, leisure and sporting functions. The garden will on the one hand upgrade a very large and central part of the West Athens Branch and on the other hand will contribute to the direct contact of the residents with their external environment, giving them the motivation and opportunities to use it for social gatherings and entertainment.
