Social Welfare

Throughout Greece

Desmos was founded in 2012 with the aim to utilize surplus products and services to meet the basic needs of vulnerable groups and individuals. Desmos communicates with organizations in Athens and Thessaloniki and records their immediate and long term needs. At the same time, it tries to meet these needs by reaching out to companies. It also coordinates the collection and distribution of these goods to accredited destinations. Some of the product categories that meet the needs of groups and individuals are: packaged food products, clothes, electrical appliances, furniture and school supplies. Desmos also raises social awareness on the importance of giving and reducing waste. In the fall of 2013, Desmos commenced the “Desmos Gives Warmth” program aimed at the supply of heating fuel to organizations throughout Greece. Through its three years of operation, the program has offered 171,566 tons of heating fuel to 123 organizations, providing heating to 7,174 beneficiaries.

“Desmos Gives Warmth” Program

The grant regards the provision of heating to care homes throughout Greece under the “Desmos Gives Warmth” program. The grant will cover the provision of heating to 30 care homes as well as the operational costs related to its implementation. The beneficiaries are the approximately 1,800 elderly residents of the care homes. Heating costs are usually one of the largest and primary expenses of care homes, depending on their location. The funding of the “Desmos Gives Warmth” program will permit the simultaneous support of a group of care homes around Greece.
