Municipal Solidarity Organization

The Municipal Solidarity Organization was founded in 1955 with the aim to offer solidarity services to the inhabitants of Rhodes Island. It currently offers various programs and services to people in need, including financial aid, psychological support, the operation of the municipal clinics and the provision of daily meals. The Hot Meal Program involves the daily delivery of lunch and dinner to the homes of 136 inhabitants of the city of Rhodes. The recipients are, in their majority, elders and people with mobility difficulties. In 2011, the recipients increased in number. The meals are cooked at the Municipality’s premises and are delivered on a daily basis, including weekends. The Social Services department of the Municipality of Rhodes is responsible for the process of choosing the recipients.

The grant regards the provision of electrical appliances for the Hot Meal Program. Currently meals are only offered to residents of the town of Rhodes. The additional electrical appliances will allow the existing staff to cook more portions simultaneously, thus increasing the number of recipients. The number increase will also allow for the expansion of this program to include more recipients residing out of the town of Rhodes.
