ActionAid is an international organization, active in 45 countries working for a world free of poverty and injustice. ActionAid Hellas began operating in 1998. Amongst its many activities, it implements a series of awareness-raising campaigns and educational programs in Greece, with the goal of sensitizing society on matters of poverty, social exclusion and racism. In 2015, ActionAid Hellas started implementing programs for refugees and more recently, the Epikentro Community Center. Epikentro offers a variety of social services to both adults and children. These services include psychosocial support, legal advisory, employment placement, capacity-building, and learning of new skills. The vision is for the Center to function at the core of the local community and offer innovative services. The ultimate goal is to empower the most vulnerable social groups so that they can face the multiple challenges resulting from the economic crisis.
The grant regards the support of Epikentro services that are directed to persons over the age of 55, including: psychological support, legal advisory, accounting advisory, employment consulting (especially for persons aged 55-64), computer instruction, choir, and theater with mental strengthening components. These services provide a holistic way of supporting a person’s needs, and, each individual is able to choose one or all of the services available. It is expected that there will be over 400 beneficiaries above 55 years of age that will receive the services offered.
