General Hospital of Voula Asklipieio
The General Hospital Asklipieio Voulas was created more than 100 years ago and is one of the largest public hospitals in Greece with approximately 400 beds. It is the only public hospital in southeast Attica. On a yearly basis, 30,000 patients are hospitalized, 80,000 patients are treated at the Emergency Unit, and 75,000 in the outpatient clinics. In 2005 Asklipieio was converted from a specialized orthopedics hospital to a general hospital while still maintaining an orthopedics focus. The B Surgical Clinic performs a wide range of operations, 40% of which laparoscopically in the abdominal area. In 2017 it performed 735 surgeries, almost 300 of which laparoscopically.
The grant regards the purchase of medical equipment needed for all types of laparoscopic surgeries for the B Surgical Clinic. More specifically, the requested equipment is a laparoscopic tower that includes a monitor allowing the surgeon to see in real time the area that she/he operates on. The direct beneficiaries are 500 patients who will undergo laparoscopic surgeries per year. More than 50% of these patients are over the age of 65.
