Seveneleven was founded in 2013 by two actors with the aim to produce theatrical performances. In 2014, through a TIMA grant, it implemented the first recreational program that involved visits to 12 care homes. With the experience gained, in 2015, Seveneleven continued by offering weekly recreational visits to one care home. In 2017, Seveneleven began implementing Thallo, a holistic recreational program for care homes. It also is training volunteers for the program’s sustainability as well as other teams for the creation of similar programs throughout Greece.
The grant regards the support of a theatrical performance on issues of ageing. The performance will be presented 10 times in 5 weeks and it will commence on Alzheimer’s day - September 21st. During the implementation of TIMA’s 2015 grant, the Seveneleven team wrote and recorded stories that the elderly residents, many of who had dementia, were recounting. This performance is a mosaic of these stories presented in a cohesive, humoristic and optimistic manner. The performance’s goal is not only to entertain but also to present the positive aspects of ageing in an effort to alleviate the stigma surrounding third age and to raise awareness regarding dementia.
