University of Peloponnese

The University of Peloponnese was founded in 2000 and is the country’s newest public academic institution. It has branches in 5 different cities in the Region of the Peloponnese, has developed a distinct research identity, and has led or taken part in a large number of research projects, many of which stand out for their practical applications. The Department of Political Science and International Relations is based in Corinth, and is a vibrant university department offering undergraduate and postgraduates programs of study. The Department combines academic research with projects that provide tangible results for society at large. The Department’s staff is engaged in diverse research activity, which is combined with extensive experience in project management. The Department of Political Science and International Relations has implemented a series of research programs, one of which, the THALES program, pertains to the evaluation of Greek nongovernmental organizations. Additionally, the Department also ran a series of educational seminars entitled “Design, Implementation and Evaluation of Programs” for Greek NGO staff all across the country, with more than 230 beneficiary organizations.

Research Project

The grant regards the creation of the research project THALES II. The project will perform the mapping of the Greek civil society sector by recording the nonprofit organizations that are active today. This mapping will include the many new organizations founded during the last three; it will also take account of more varied nonprofit legal entities compared to THALES I. The evaluation of the nonprofits will be based on a variety of qualitative criteria and all data will be transferred to an online platform that will be updated on a yearly basis by the nonprofit organizations themselves. This methodology provides a sustainable solution that promotes transparency in the sector.
