The Ladies Union of Drama was founded in 1904 with the aim to offer goods and services to residents of Drama in need. Currently, the Union offers a plethora of goods and services to vulnerable groups. These include psychological support, job placement, food supplies, a hostel, distribution of clothes and other donated items. Additionally, the Ladies Union of Drama provides financial aid for various purposes such as healthcare, utility bills and rent. It facilitates the matching of many different needs in the Drama prefecture. The daily operation of the Union relies almost exclusively on volunteers.
The grant regards the implementation of "Caring for the Elderly", a program providing monthly food supplies and hygiene products to 74 families in need in Drama. The recipient families are comprised of elders exclusively or with an elderly family member living under the same roof. The provision of food supplies and hygiene products is realized through the use of vouchers allowing the families to purchase the items that they need most. Two social workers have received specialized training and appointed to run the program more efficiently. The families also receive nutritional advice regarding a healthier and more balanced diet for their elderly members. The grant is implemented in direct collaboration with the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation.
