Plegma

Plegma was founded in 2014 on the island of Skopelos. It develops a range of cultural activities throughout Greece and Europe. Its main activities include the organization of seminars and educational, cultural and tourism events and the organization of theatrical plays. Plegma aims to engage the public, enabling citizens to become actively involved in cultural events, forming cultural networks, exchanging know-how and providing continuous training to cultural managers. Plegma organizes the Traditional Dance Festival “Diamantis Palaiologos” in Skopelos which has been awarded in the Best City Awards. Plegma also coordinates the OpenTourism cycle of open discussions in various Aegean islands, with free admission throughout the year.

Intergenerational Program

The grant regards an intergenerational program between elders and children that will have as its goal the recording of oral history. The recording of oral history is considered a valid method of recording and interpreting contemporary history. 30% of the population of the island of Skopelos is over 60 years old and do not have many opportunities to creatively interact with young children. Kindergarten students, under the guidance of educational personnel, will meet with members of the Skopelos Open Protection Center for the Elderly (OPCE) in order to collect stories, cultural traditions, and historical events. These narratives, which will act as a trigger for the development of visual works by children, will be recorded and the children's creations will be published in a special publication that will be printed and broadly distributed. Additionally, the visual works of the children will be displayed as part of an art exhibit at the OPCE. This activity is particularly significant as children will learn to respect elders and learn from them and in turn elders will hone their creativity skills and combat social exclusion.
